Hybrid Pilot Program

FIU Online and the Center for Advancement in Teaching (CAT), in collaboration with Educational and Technology Services, are supporting the Provost’s Hybrid Pilot Program. Through this pilot, we are exploring the potential of the hybrid modality to enhance learning, and it is the first step in the FIUBeyondPossible2020 Strategic Plan to meet the growing student demand of scheduling flexibility.

To recognize the time and effort it takes to prepare an effective hybrid course, FIU is offering a one-time incentive to instructors seeking to teach their first hybrid course.

Requirements

FIU's team of teaching, learning, and instructional design experts has designed comprehensive professional development programming to support faculty on the hybrid journey. Participating in this hybrid professional development program—which is itself offered in hybrid format—is a core requirement of the pilot. In addition, faculty will be asked to evaluate their hybrid courses using FIU’s Learning-Centered Hybrid Rubric, and to submit this completed rubric to the professional development team. If you would like to review the rubric with one of the Hybrid Team members, please email hybrid@fiu.edu. Applications will be prioritized based on strategic planning and professional development capacity, therefore, applications for undergraduate courses will be given priority.

Compensation

Instructors will receive a $1,500 incentive for designing, teaching, and participating in the professional development of their first hybrid course. This incentive will only be offered during the first term the instructor is teaching in hybrid modality. The contract for these incentives will be created by the Online and Hybrid Teaching & Learning Team and funded by Academic Affairs. Contracts will be issued during the term the course is being taught.
